Annual Report for 2006

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT, Sandra Eliason

I can’t wait… to tell you about what the Highline Schools Foundation for Excellence has been able to accomplish over the last year. As the only non-profit Foundation serving all 17,000 students in all 32 Highline Public Schools, we distributed 40% more in 2006 compared with 2005 (exclusive of a large grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation).
A student’s classroom and school experience can be enriched in a number of ways; we support professional teacher education, encourage innovative teaching, inspire students to reach a higher level, and begin to groom and prepare students to be tomorrow’s leaders, employees and volunteers.
This year’s theme of “I can’t wait…” is designed to focus the Foundation’s efforts to create enthusiasm about education within our community.
With your generous contributions we were able accomplish the achievements listed below. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your continued support and promise you that our efforts are making a difference!

Sandra Eliason, President

2006 Accomplishments

Last year was a very successful year for Highline Schools Foundation. We raised more money, granted more money, and developed an amazing team of Trustees. Below are a few highlights:
• Established a partnership with the organization that supports Camp Waskowitz – Puget Sound Youth Foundation – by serving as their fiscal agent
• Academic Achievement – sponsored the World of Books campaign
• Classroom Enrichment – provided more than 50 classroom grants and adopted 145 classrooms
• Scholarships – Six Seattle-Tacoma International Airport scholarships were awarded to local students going on to attend technical schools, community colleges and universities
• Arts – granted Summer Arts Academy scholarships and purchased musical instruments for schools
