McMicken Heights Community Club gives $150,000 Endowment
to the Highline Schools Foundation
Burien, WA – The McMicken Heights Community Club recently gave $150,000 to the Highline Schools Foundation to start an endowment benefiting Highline students in the SeaTac area. The Club was a neighborhood improvement group in existence for almost 60 years with over 600 members at one point. The Club recently decided to disband and sold the clubhouse that they had built with their own hands. They distributed $600,000 to local school organizations including the Highline Schools Foundation, Puget Sound Skills Center and Seattle Christian School Foundation.
The Highline School’s Foundation will use the endowment funds for the benefit of the students at McMicken Heights Elementary School and potentially for college scholarships to selected students in the SeaTac area. “We are extremely grateful to the McMicken Heights Community Club for giving this endowment to the Foundation,” said Dawn Elwell, Executive Director. “It represents the gifts of so many people in the McMicken Heights community and Highline students will benefit from this legacy for years to come.”
The Highline Schools Foundation for Excellence was established in 2001. With a mission “To develop community resources to help students succeed”, the Foundation is the only 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization supporting all Highline public schools. The Foundation supports academic achievement, classroom grants, scholarships, and the arts.
